Daredevil Scribe Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is The Showrunner of Netflix's The Witcher


Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher has found its showrunner: Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, known for writing and producing Marvel's Daredevil and TheDefenders on the streaming service. She will adapt The Witcher novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, Variety reports. Hissrich will also serve as executive producer for the fantasy TV series Netflix announced in May.

The Witcher series is comprised of eight novels and collection of short stories about monster hunters called witchers and centers around Geralt of Rivia. The hunters undergo training and body modification to battle monsters using supernatural powers. Executive producers Jason Brown and Sean Daniel previously released the following statement sharing some additional insight into the story:

"The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can't wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling."

The books spawned a critically acclaimed series of video games as well as a 13-episode Polish television series in 2002, board games, and graphic novels. The latest novel, Season of Storms, was released in 2013.
