Daredevil Actress Says Netflix Ought To Be Blamed For The Series’ Cancellation, Not Marvel

Marvel fans experienced a whole lot of heartache last November. Not only did they lose Marvel comic book legend Stan Lee, but they also lost Daredevil after Netflix decided to ax the series. Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) series was one of the most critically acclaimed Marvel shows on Netflix, and after a successful season 3 release, many were hoping to see another batch of episodes being greenlit for production.

Now, two weeks after the fallout, Daredevil actress Amy Rutberg provides more updates about the cancellation of the series. Speaking in an interview with Inverse, the actress who played Marci Stahl in the former Marvel Netflix series opens up about Daredevil'scancellation, saying that it was purely a decision by Netflix.

"My contacts at Marvel were very surprised," Rutberg said. "Any of the rumors that it was a Marvel decision are wrong, I think it was purely a Netflix decision. That comes from personal conversations with people high up at Marvel. They were surprised … We had heard rumors we would start production as early as February 2019. It's a little unusual to be that far ahead in the planning and cancel the show, which makes me think Netflix was laboring over whether or not to cancel it. My guess was it was not an easy decision."

This comment by Rutberg counters earlier reports saying that Daredevil's cancellation was at the request of Marvel, possibly because of Disney's plans to migrate all of its content out of Netflix and into its own streaming service, Disney+.

Unfortunately, because of a clause in Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage's separate contracts with Netflix, Matt, Danny, and Marvel's Power Man are not allowed to appear on any other streaming site or network within two years after the shows' cancellations.

This means that Marvel fans are going to have to hunker down and wait for a pretty long time before Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist can find its way to Disney+.

Daredevil season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
