Damon Lindelof was once tasked to bring the Star Wars franchise back to the big screen but just days before Star Wars Celebration in London kicked off, he and co-writer Justin Britt-Gibson departed from the film which would have been the official follow-up to the sequel trilogy.

Reports surrounding Lindelof and Britt-Gibson's shocking withdrawal from the film have been quite conflicting but Damon recently revealed that Lucasfilm asked them to step down from the project.

Now, new details about Lindelof's supposed Star Wars film are finally coming to light. On The Hot Mic podcast, industry tipster Jeff Sneider discussed Lindelof's alleged plans for his scrapped Star Wars flick.

Instead of it being set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, Sneider claims that the Watchmen writer originally intended for it to make a 60-year time jump.

If that wasn't audacious enough, Sneider added that Lindelof still planned on using Rey Skywalker but instead of casting Daisy Ridley for the part and going the VFX route to age her, he reportedly toyed with the idea of recruiting Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Helen Mirren for the part.

Sneider clarified, however, that Mirren was never in talks for the project but if he ended up getting things his way, she would have been his ideal choice to play a more seasoned version of Rey.

While Damon's take on the story is undoubtedly fascinating, it would have been way too risky to do a six-decade time jump without covering the aftermath of Episode IX. And let's be honest, Ridley still has unfinished business in the franchise.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Star Wars film is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
