The 27-year-old actor started in the business in the TV short Family Tree Pilot Trailer and the short Bertrand the Terrible in 2011. It was followed by a stint in the music video for Make Them Suffer’s “Old Souls” and another short Tryptophan in 2015.
Come 2016, he did Better Watch Out and 2017 proved to be a big year for him.
Aside from playing the role of Red Ranger in Power Rangers, he was cast as Billy in Stranger Things Season 2. He also did A Few Less Men and the music video for Angus & Julia Stone’s “Chateau” in the same year.

Of course, Dacre Montgomery’s great acting talent didn’t go unnoticed. He received a nomination for both the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2018 and 2020 for Stranger Things.
He was also nominated for an MTV Movie + TV Award in 2018 for Stranger Things and a Teen Choice Award in 2017 for Power Rangers.

Dacre Montgomery Talked About Stranger Things Role
Dacre Montgomery joined Stranger Things in 2017 for its second season. As many thought he was the show’s villain, the actor believed his character was not as bad but a “pure evil.”
"He's like pure evil…but the supernatural element that's incorporated makes it really interesting and makes it dark and at times horrible, but I hope that the choices are interesting and diverse,” he told Collider in an interview back then.
To perfectly portray his role as the evil brother of Max (Sadie Sink), the actor did his homework. He studied one of the most ghost-possessed characters in movie history, Jack Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson, in Stanley Kubrick’s iconic horror movie The Shining.

"[I looked at] Jack Nicholson going into it was, not so much as a character but an actor. Some of the characters that he plays like his character in The Shining, for example, was what was tossed around a lot with the Duffers coming into season 2," he revealed. "But I think more so with Jack's unpredictable choices that make him an interesting actor. In the second season, I like to think that we started to introduce some of that. But in the third season, it truly becomes more of his character in The Shining. It was extremely fun to play with and very powerful."
He also watched the Netflix movie Hold the Dark and the series The Haunting of Hill House. These shows seemed to prepare him for the grueling scene in the show’s third season where Billy faced Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the rest of the gang inside the local pool’s locker room.
Shooting a 25-page scene in four days, he called it “the most rewarding week of my career as a struggling actor.”

Everyone gave their 150% at the time and it was a success.
"And my whole body is covered in bruises. But we were just crying with happiness by the end of it because it's like if I told my 10-year-old self this is you in 12 years, I don't know what I'd think,” he revealed.
