Crunchyroll announced its partnership with Idris and Sabrina Elba. The partnership will be in conjunction with Sabrina's Pink Towel Pictures and Idris' Green Door Pictures to produce Dantai, a dark fantasy animated series for the streaming platform.
Dantai is currently a working title. It is an "Afro-futuristic science fiction series" which is set in a city with rising biotechnology that has widened the gap between the haves and have-nots. Two rising stars from two sides of the divide are pitted against each other. The story will explore kinship and equality in a corrupt society.
According to IGN, the Elbas are thrilled. The couple stated that they are excited to announce the deal of their first anime. The Elbas revealed that they are fans of the genre and see an opportunity to create something unique on the Crunchyroll platform. The Elbas added that the story of Dantai is their collaboration as producers of the series, adding that the project is close to their hearts.
Aside from the collaboration with the Elbas, Crunchyroll also announced that the platform had surpassed the four million subscriber milestone last January 2021, six months after they broke the three-million subscriber mark.
The animated thriller Dantai will be joining a library of more than 1000 titles. Crunchyroll head of development Sarah Victor stated that they are thrilled with the collaboration with the Elbas, especially as they will serve as executive producers for the anime-inspired sci-fi epic. They are looking forward to bringing the exciting collaboration and bringing good content to their millions of subscribers.
