Along with the new channel announcement, Crunchyroll announced the lineup of shows that will be telecast during its initial launch period.

Crunchyroll has long been known as a go-to place for many anime fans for new seasonal anime shows. After all, Crunchyroll streams lots of new shows as soon as they air in Japan.

For instance, fans in the US can watch anime such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End along with Spy x Family on the platform.

Now, Crunchyroll is expanding with a new 24/7 channel that telecasts the following shows:

This is an interesting development, especially considering that streaming and video-on-demand have taken over the US. Cable channels, at this point, are mostly retained for sports and other live programs.

Crunchyroll’s new channel is not exactly a cable channel, but it’s kind of like one as it features programming blocks that viewers have to tune in for.

It may be surprising at first, but it does make sense if you think of it as a gateway for non-anime viewers to try and watch anime. After all, anime fans are already likely subscribed to the service.
