Cruella Sequel Starring Emma Stone Already in the Works at Disney

It looks like fans will learn even more about Cruella de Vil soon. Disney has just confirmed that a Cruella sequel is in the works with Emma Stone returning to play the spotted puppy fur-obsessed villainess.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Cruella 2 is now in early development. In addition to Stone reprising her role as the titular 101 Dalmatians character, director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara have been tapped to return for the sequel.

It's no surprise that Disney is eager to pursue a sequel. After all, Cruella has been doing very well at the box office.

"We are very pleased with Cruella's box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date," a Disney spokesperson said in a statement.

"The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A's in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film," they said.

For now, Cruella 2 is still in early development so we may not learn about its production start date or release date soon. In the meantime, fans can still enjoy the first movie, which is screening in theaters worldwide.

Cruella is loosely based on the Dodie Smith novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians as well as the Disney animated classic. It is screening theatrically and is also available on Disney+ through Premier Access.
