Creed Star Tessa Thompson Joins Thor: Ragnarok in Surprising Role

There hadn't been much buzz surrounding Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok in 2017. We know that the movie will see the return of familiar faces from Asgard and Earth. Cate Blanchett is also known to join the cast as a main villain. However, details about the film's other new slate of cast members had been scant.

Now, the latest news on Thor: Ragnarok comes a bit of a surprise.

According to Deadline, Creed star Tessa Thompson is joining the cast of Ragnarok as a major player. By major player, we mean the report stating that she'll be the demi-god's new love interest. This would then mean that Thor's relationship with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will no longer exist.

The website also claims that Thompson will play "a kind of superhero" who will eventually appear in other Marvel films.

Thor: The Dark World's post-credits featured Thor and Jane in a good place, reunited as a happy couple once again, so it would be interesting to see how Ragnarok's storyline will feature the decline of Jane and Thor's relationship. I suppose it would be hard to make a long distance relationship such as Thor and Jane's work.

It remains to be seen which "kind of superhero" Thompson will be playing.

Apart from the Rocky spinoff Creed, Thompson also appeared on television in 666 Park Avenue and Copper, as well as Selma. Her latest series is HBO's upcoming Westworld. It's funny since the 32-year-old actress will also star alongside Natalie Portman in 2017's Annihilation.

Do you have any idea who Thompson will be in Thor: Ragnarok, if she's indeed playing the new love interest of the Avenger?

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
