Could Star Wars: Episode IX’s Late Reshoots Be A Sign Of Trouble?

Could there be trouble on the set of Star Wars: Episode IX?

According to Making Star Wars, new reports from multiple sources reveal that additional shoots are currently underway for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm just recently closed off work in Black Park in the UK for either reshoots or pickups with an X-Win fighter prop being part of the additional sequence.

The reports also indicate that a notice has been put up saying that the reshoots may very well continue throughout early September. While reshoots are pretty normal for blockbuster productions and shouldn't necessarily be taken as indicator of trouble, a September end sounds pretty late considering the fact that Episode IX is scheduled for release in December. September ought to be the start of post-production, not the end of reshoots.

Hopefully, Lucasfilm manages to squeeze all the extra work in so that the film makes it in time for its release. There's a lot riding on The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the film the very last entry in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but the film is also supposed to serve as the culmination of the Skywalker saga.

Once The Rise of Skywalker comes to an end, the Star Wars franchise will begin to move away from the story of the Skywalker family and all the other legacy characters tied to the Chosen one, starting with the Star Wars trilogy to be directed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Let's hope The Rise of Skywalker exceeds expectations and more.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
