Indian actress Priyanka Chopra is slowly making her way to the mainstream spotlight, but is it possible that she could be working on a Marvel movie next?
Talking to the Hindustan Times, Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo confirms that they are currently in talks with Chopra for a future role. Russo said when asked about working with an Indian actor in the future: "I'd love to work with Priyanka [Chopra]…I'm smiling only because we're potentially talking to her about something, I'm just not going to say what yet."
He doesn't specifically say that he wants Chopra for a Marvel film, but one can't help but think about the future. Russo also did say that the MCU is looking to be more inclusive of India, seeing as it's one of the largest growing crowds of Marvel fans in the world. He specifically said, "India is incredibly important. It's the fastest growing market in the world for Marvel."
Russo was recently shown an Indian crowd reaction to Avengers: Infinity War as well, and he says that the cheers would help the team get through the project when they were feeling "tired" of Endgame.
"The moment when Thor lands…the cheers sound like it's a football stadium…
"Whenever we used to get tired on Endgame, we used to play that (recording) and get re-inspired… To know that audiences here respond to movies that way - respond to these movies in particular that way - is why we make them."
With the Russo's next project being a non-MCU film called Cherry, it's possible that Chopra could be in line for a role in that film rather than the MCU. Then again, with Russo's comments on the importance of the Indian audience, how could Marvel not be interested in bringing one of the most popular Indian actresses in Hollywood?
We don't know if Chopra will ever be in Marvel, but we do know that Avengers: Endgame is set for a release on April 26.
