Coronavirus Could Affect The 2020 San Diego Comic-Con


COVID-19 is spreading fast. Now that more and more cases of the novel coronavirus have been identified around the globe, the outbreak has had a major effect on the entertainment industry. Not only have major films like Mission: Impossible 7 stopped production, but major events have been canceled due to the spread of COVID-19. Disney decided to cancel the European launch event of Disney+ in London. Emerald City Comic-Con was shut down. SXSW was called off as well.

Now, pop culture fans can't help but wonder whether the COVID-19 outbreak might affect the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con as well. Sure, the convention might still be five months away from now, but we can't really be sure how long the novel coronavirus pandemic might last. The number of COVID-19 cases could very well balloon a few months from now.

According to a report by ComicBook.com, the organizers of SDCC still hasn't determined whether or not the event might be affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The event organizers are however monitoring developments as closely as they can, working with local officials regarding the matter to see what appropriate action to take.

The organizers need to know as soon as possible the state of SDCC in the light of the coronavirus pandemic so that it can announce its plans to fans. Many convention-goers are still finalizing their plans for this year's SDCC, and so organizers will have to see how the pandemic might impact the event.

For now, pop culture fans ought to keep their fingers crossed.

Specialists are hoping that the coronavirus dies out once warmer weather rolls right in, saying that COVID-19 could have a seasonality to it.

The 2020 San Diego Comic-Con International is currently slated to take place in San Diego from July 22 to July 26.
