Controversial Batman: Damned Graphic Novel Gets a Trailer

Batman: Damned, the first series to be released under DC's Black Label line of comics, will soon be available in hardcover but pre-orders for it are now open. This title actually attracted some controversy when it was first released but fans whose only experience with the comic is this upcoming graphic novel won't know why. Still, it's a gorgeous graphic novel and one that DC fans will probably want in their bookshelves.

For those unaware, the controversy came when issue one hit comic book stores since fans were given a pleasant/unpleasant surprise while reading. You see, the comic features a look at, for the lack of a wittier term, Batman's penis. It's only for a brief moment in the comic but it got fans talking so much that it eventually sold out and costs a lot on eBay.

This graphic novel, despite being aimed at more mature audiences, will not have the infamous scene. Jim Lee and Dan Didio had stated that they wouldn't be showing that much nudity in future releases of Black Label. Furthermore, all future reprints of Batman: Damned won't have the infamous scene so anyone picking this up should be prepared for the lack of Bruce Wayne's little "bat."

As someone who pre-ordered the first issue for Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo, two artists who have made wonderful DC comics in the past, seeing Batman's package was a surprise. Still, it did have some suspense and was a solid enough tale, even if the storytelling has some pacing issues.

Black Label's Batman: Damned hardcover will be coming to comic book stores and bookstores on September 10.
