Comedian Chris Rock is Going to Star in a Reboot of the SAW Franchise

The SAW franchise is one of the most successful horror properties for Lionsgate films, and since 2017's Jigsaw, we don't really know what's next for the series. As it turns out, comedian Chris Rock is a huge fan, and he's going to star in and help develop an expansion of the SAW world.

Talking to Bloody Disgusting, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chairman Joe Drake had this to say about Rock's involvement:

"When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in… SAW is one of the highest grossing horror franchises of all-time and it's one of Lionsgate's most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous SAW films. Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision, and passion for this classic horror franchise."

Rock himself had also said about the series, "I've been a fan of SAW since the first film in 2004… I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place."

We don't really know what's going to happen in this next SAW film, but we know that it's not going to be a comedy at all. If anything, Rock is following the footsteps of Jordan Peele, who was best known for comedy, but has recently branched out to become a gamechanger in the horror genre with films like Get Out and Us.

The next SAW movie starring Chris Rock is set to come out Oct. 23, 2020.
