Colin Farrell recently addressed the potential season 2 renewal of The Penguin as fans are anticipating its premiere.

Next week, the highly-anticipated The Batman spinoff series will finally arrive on HBO. It will focus on Oswald Cobblepot's adventure in the criminal underworld of Gotham City following the events of the first film.

While the project is currently set as an eight-episode limited series, fans are wondering whether it will still get renewed for another season and continue Oswald's journey on television.

Colin Farrell Says The Penguin Season 2 Might Not Happen

In a recent interview, Farrell was asked whether he is open to returning in a potential season 2 of The Penguin.

He admitted that he is unsure about whether he will play Oswald Cobblepot again in another season due to the challenges of playing the character.

"I don’t know, man. Don't get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was bitching and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I fucking wanted it to be finished. I tried to remind them that I had 'grumpy gratitude,'" the actor said.

"I was still grateful, and still honored – I grew up watching Burgess Meredith [who played the role in the '60s TV series], and then Danny DeVito [in Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns] was my Penguin – so being a part of the lineage of that storytelling, I really did feel privileged. But by the end of it…"

Farrell added, "It's not like I didn't know who I was and I was going out and burning cars and sh*t, but… if you take what Matt Reeves created and then what Lauren [LeFranc, showrunner] did and what Mike [Marino, prosthetics and make-up designer] did and put them all together, it was a really powerful experience."

It is understandable to hear Farrell's sentiments given the heavy prosthetic makeup that he underwent to play the character daily while filming and it could take a physical and mental toll.

Perhaps it will all depend on the show's success and Reeves' plan for the future of the franchise whether it will get a season 2 or they will focus again on exploring Oswald in the big-screen projects.

The Penguin is set to premiere on HBO this September 19.
