Cobra Kai creator Jon Hurwitz recently shared updates about how the spin-off series are going, giving fans an idea what's next for the Karate Kid franchise.
Over on Twitter, Hurwitz said that there are still a lot of decisions they need to make, and when a fan asked the producer about a Mr. Miyagi series, Hurwitz said that nothing has been decided yet. According to the creator, they're still discussing ideas for various Karate Kid/Cobra Kai spin-offs, and that some of those developments are already further along than others.
"We're batting around ideas for various Karate Kid/Cobra Kai spinoffs. Some further along than others. Won't spoil anything beyond that," Hurwitz wrote.
It sounds like fans will have to wait a little longer to find out what direction Hurwitz and his team will take the franchise to. The creative team of Cobra Kai recently spoke to TV Line about their plans for the franchise, and according to executive producer and co-showrunner Hayden Schlossberg, there have been various ideas proposed for spin-offs, but they're keeping details under wraps for now.
"Our hope is that we can really expand this whole Karate Kid universe and reinvigorate the fanbase, so that it's a story we can continue telling," Schlossberg said. "We do have an endgame for Cobra Kai, but we always compare it to our other favorite show, Breaking Bad, [and how] they're able to keep the story going with Better Call Saul and El Camino."
The producer continued, "We spend time with Kreese's backstory [in Season 3], but we could've spent more time with Kreese's backstory. We have so many things to tell in these half-hour episodes, it ends up not being enough. We're just having a fun time as friends getting to work in the sandbox of The Karate Kid and hope to keep it going."
