It has now been a week since City Hunter’s release, and it’s officially a big hit. That’s because the new City Hunter live-action film topped the Netflix non-English movie chart worldwide in the past week.
According to Netflix’s charts, this new anime live-action adaptation from the streaming giant was confirmed to be the most-watched non-English movie on Netflix.
This is a big achievement, especially considering that it topped the charts based on data from April 22 to 28, even though it was released on April 25.
City Hunter Is This Week’s Top Non-English Film on Netflix
Netflix has tried to adapt many popular anime as live-action movies or series.
While its projects such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop weren’t successful, it seems Netflix finally found the formula with shows like One Piece.
Now, Netflix is indeed hitting its stride when it comes to live-action anime adaptations. That’s because the new City Hunter movie is already a big hit when it comes to streaming numbers.
As confirmed on Netflix’s Top 10 website, the movie has 9.1 million hours viewed, with a total of 5.3 million views in the week of April 22 to 28.
The film’s streaming numbers may come as a bit of a surprise to some given how City Hunter might not be as popular as it was in the 80s and 90s.
City Hunter topping the charts does prove that there’s still a lot of interest in the franchise, so it won’t be surprising to see even more projects soon.

City Hunter Is a Top 10 Movie in 32 Countries
Aside from topping the non-English chart, City Hunter also reached the Netflix Top 10 in 32 countries. Out of the 32, it even became the top film of the week in some countries, including Japan.
Currently, the film is not in the Top 10 in the US, though that’s not too surprising given that the original City Hunter anime is more popular in parts of Asia and Europe.
Its popularity in Asia and Europe is also the reason it got live-action adaptations there previously.
For instance, there’s the Hong Kong action film starring Jackie Chan while there’s also a live-action French adaptation in 2018.

Is the City Hunter Movie Good and Worth Watching?
While lots of anime fans around the world have already seen the film, those who haven’t may be wondering if it’s worth watching.
Based on critic reviews, the film is said to be fun to watch, with the movie currently having a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
From the looks of it, the reactions seem to be that it’s a fun watch for fans of the original anime, but some elements may not be for everyone.
