Christopher Nolan Allegedly Pushing for July Release of Tenet

When lockdown had started earlier this year, everyone was hoping that things would get back to normal by June. Sadly, that isn't the case, and it looks like things are going to be delayed for longer. Oddly enough, WB is sticking to their July release for Tenet because they want to keep director Christopher Nolan happy.

As The New York Times suggests (via The Playlist), WB has wanted to postpone the release of Tenet for a while, but Nolan was said to be insistent on keeping the release date. The report writes:

In recent weeks, Warner, concerned about its "Tenet" investment, was leaning in favor of postponement, while Mr. Nolan, a fervent advocate for preserving the moviegoing experience, was more eager to press ahead. The discussions amounted to a fraught moment for Warner: Mr. Nolan is a proven moneymaker, and the studio wants to keep him happy.

While a July release date seemed reasonable a few months ago, the escalating chaos ever since the virus took over has led some to believe that theaters will be closed all the way into August. While everyone would like to think theaters would be open by July, releasing a tentpole film like Tenet is an extremely huge risk.

Hopefully, Nolan will reconsider once all the facts are brought forward. I mean, if most theaters aren't open by July, then we should expect that the delay is the only logical course. No one wants to risk catching the virus for the release of a movie; no matter how big.

For now, Tenet is still set to hit theaters on July 16.
