Chris Rock Didn't Seem Interested To Accept Will Smith's Apology
During a recent performance with Dave Chappelle at London's O2 Arena, Chris Rock cursed at Will Smith's apology and called it a hostage video.
The comedian also referenced the controversial Oscars slap that happened after he made fun of Jada Pinkett-Smith's hair. Rock claimed that he had no idea that the Gotham star suffers from alopecia.
After hearing his offensive comments, Smith rushed to the stage and slapped Rock in front of all the guests at the awards show. At first, they thought that the slap was part of a skit but soon figured that Smith was really upset with Rock because of his comments.
In his skit this past weekend, Rock also joked about the slap by saying that it hurt because Smith previously played the role of Muhammad Ali in the 2001 film Ali.
Will Smith's Ex-Wife Sheree Zampino Supports Him After The Controversial Oscars Slap
In his apology, Smith revealed that he tried to reach out to Rock several times but had not been successful.
"I've reached out to Chris and the message that came back is he's not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So, I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I'm here whenever you're ready to talk," he said (via Yahoo! News).
Even though Rock was not accepting of his apology, one person who stuck by Smith's side is his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino. The latter is also urging everyone to move on from the incident, especially since Smith already took accountability for his actions.
"He's apologized, and he's taken responsibility and accountability for it. I don't know what happened at the moment. I wouldn't ask. If that's something he wants to share, he can. But he's got a family that loves him, rides for him, and supports him. He's allowed to be human," she said.
Chris Rock Refused To Host The Oscars Next Year
Meanwhile, The Arizona Republic claimed that the Oscars asked Rock to host next year's awards show, but he declined the opportunity.
"Rock compared returning to the Oscars to returning to the scene of a crime, referencing the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, whose ex-wife's killing began with her leaving a pair of eyeglasses at an Italian restaurant. Rock said returning to the award ceremony would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson 'to go back to the restaurant,'" the publication claimed.
