Chris Miller and Phil Lord To Helm Young Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film

As many fans have speculated, Disney and Lucasfilm are expanding the Star Wars universe with an Anthology film about one of the saga's most iconic characters: Han Solo.

According ot the press release (via Starwars.com), Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the creative minds who directed The LEGO Movie and the Jump Street films, will be directing the next Star Wars spin-off film centered on Han Solo's younger days.

"This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you're late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all" said Miller and Lord.
The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The story focuses on how young
Han Solo
became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

You'll probably reconigze Lawrence Kasdan as the writer of The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens. The film is scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release, and it will be the second Star Wars Anthology film after Gareth Edwards' Rogue One film, and it's apparently the same project that Josh Trank was developing before he left (or was fired, who knows?)

Miller and Lord are currently working on the sequel to The LEGO Movie, The Flash movie for Warner Bros. and the animated Spider-Man film for Sony.
