Chris McQuarrie Turned Down DC Projects to Work on Mission Impossible

News had just recently come out that Chris McQuarrie is doing two more Mission impossible films, but not so long ago, it was rumored that he was being tapped to direct a film for the DCEU. As it turns out, those DC rumors could have been true—it's just that McQuarrie didn't want to work on them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros had "tried to seduce [McQuarrie] with DC projects," but ultimately, McQuarrie decided to take a break and come to do more Missions Impossible with Tom Cruise.

Before the news had broken out, it was rumored that McQuarrie was being asked to do a Green Lantern Corps film with the idea that Tom Cruise would be playing an older Hal Jordan. It was also floated around that McQuarrie was being considered to helm the Man of Steel sequel since he's already built a rapport with Henry Cavill by working on MI: Fallout.

For now, the DCEU slate is confirmed for movies Shazam!, Joker, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984. A Batman movie is in the works with Matt Reeves, and other projects like Batgirl, Supergirl, Suicide Squad 2, Nightwing, and Blue Beetle are said to be in development.

I'm just here hoping McQuarrie directs something other than Mission Impossible in the future. We don't want another David Yates in our hands. Did you know he's been directing every Harry Potter movie since 2007? You'd think they give someone else a shot at some point.

Mission Impossible 7 is set to come out sometime in 2021.
