Chris Hemsworth was Almost Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine brought Gambit to the big screen, but nobody really loved Taylor Kitsch's iteration of the character. What's funny though, is that Remy Lebeau was almost played by the God of Thunder himself Chris Hemsworth.

Talking to Variety, Hemsworth revealed that he was very close to being cast in possibly one of the worst X-Men movies to ever be made. Hemsworth talks a bit about his near misses:

"I got very close to ‘GI Joe,'… I got very close to Gambit in the WolverineX-Men' movies… At the time I was upset… I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn't have been able to play Thor."

What's also funny is that GI Joe had starred Channing Tatum, and Tatum was attached to the lead role of Gambit in the solo movie which is probably dead in the water. We don't know if Hemsworth was up for the part of Duke, but I'm sure the film would have wanted a bigger star like Tatum in the lead.

For now, Hemsworth is pretty lucky to have landed Thor, and even after Endgame, it looks like the Son of Odin's story is far from over. We'll probably get to see him in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but I would be very open to watching a Unworthy Thor movie. This is also just my peeve, but I kind of wish we got the more ‘formal' Thor back since the character has been kind of a joke after Ragnarok. I'm not saying Thor can't be funny, but this new version is just more of a cartoon.

Then again, that's just my opinion.

Catch Thor in Avengers: Endgame which is out in theaters today.
