Chris Hemsworth Fought to Keep Thor Fat in Avengers: Endgame

One of the biggest shockers to come from Avengers: Endgame was Thor, specifically what happened to his physical appearance. Most fans tend to see the character as a chiseled Adonis fitting of the moniker "God of Thunder," so it was rather shocking to see actor Chris Hemsworth wear a fatsuit throughout the film. People had a mixed reaction to this but it did make his arc feel more tragic and helped make that moment with his mother a great one.

Turns out that Hemsworth fought to keep the character in this state, which he revealed in an interview with Variety. While it was difficult for him to get in this state, it would take three hours of makeup to turn Hemsworth into Fat Thor, he did enjoy the ribbing he would get from his fellow actors.

Here is his statement:

"I like that anything goes. You're not locked into expectations. I enjoyed that version of Thor. It was so different than any other way I played the character. And then it took on a life of its own."
"People just kept coming up and cuddling me like a big bear or rubbing my belly like I was pregnant. Or trying to sit on my lap like I was Santa Claus. You get a lot of affection. I felt like an old man, an old grandpa, with a bunch of kids around. And then you get sick of it when people come up and grab your belly. ‘Don't grab me like that!' I know how my wife felt when strangers would come up and rub her belly."

Chris did get his way since the character remains in this state, even when he joins the Guardians of the Galaxy. There's a good chance that we'll be seeing Fit Thor again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but we could also see Fat Thor; it also depends on what James Gunn has planned of course.

Avengers: Endgame should still be showing in theaters.
