Chris Hemsworth Is Open to Reprise Star Trek Role

Before he became Thor, Chris Hemsworth's first major big-screen role is in 2009's Star Trek where he played George Kirk at the beginning of the film. There were even plans for him to reprise the role a few years ago and team up with Chris Pine on a sequel that didn't end up happening. However, it looks like the Australian actor still has his eyes on returning to the Star Trek Universe.

In a recent video that he did for Vanity Fair where he did a breakdown of his career, Hemsworth recalled the audition that he did for Star Trek in director J.J. Abrams' office and expressed how he didn't anticipate the massive results that the film will have. He also confirmed the reports in the past that he and Pine were set to star in a sequel together before it fell through and revealed that he is still open to reprising the role if Abrams asks him today.

"There was talk about me doing the film with Chris Pine at one point, the script was sort of put together and then it fell apart," Hemsworth recalled. "If J.J. Abrams called me tomorrow and said, ‘Chris Pine and I want to do it,’ I’d probably say ‘Yeah, let’s go for it.’"

It is great to hear that Hemsworth is still open to playing George Kirk again in a Star Trek sequel. While he only appeared in a couple of minutes on the first film, he managed to make a great impression and it launched his movie career that would end up leading to his iconic role of Thor in the MCU later on.

However, given that a fourth film is currently in the works with the main cast set to return, there is a possibility that Hemsworth could be invited to appear in the film possibly in a flashback or a major role revisiting the idea from years ago.

There is also a chance that the current iteration of the project doesn't include George Kirk which means that Hemsworth might not get invited to be in the film. Either way, it would be great to see him show up again in some capacity and fingers crossed that they'll find a way to make it happen given that Hemsworth is open to doing it.
