Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi Address Loki's Involvement in Thor: Love and Thunder

In just a few more days, fans will once again witness the triumphant return of Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder. Alongside Hemsworth's Thor, Thor-centric characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy crew, Valkyrie, Korg, and Natalie Portman's Lady Thor are also set to make a comeback. However, fans seem to think that Tom Hiddleston's Loki will still appear in the upcoming film despite his tragic death in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, Chris Hemsworth and the showrunner Taika Waititi have finally responded to these fan speculations.

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi discussed why Tom Hiddleston's Loki won't return in Thor: Love and Thunder. "He didn't want to be involved," Hemsworth said. "He, he said 'I hate all of you, and, and in particular me,' and I was like, that's a shame. And that's it. I mean, how many times can we kill him? ... We love Tom. We love Tom. Yeah. But he's dead. Not him, but the character of Loki."

Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief Loki died in the very first sequence of Avengers: Infinity War at the hands of Thanos. However, the past version of Loki escaped using the time stone, which resulted in a new adventure with Disney+'s Loki.

Waititi added, "No, no he's just dead to us," whereas Hemsworth agrees, "He's obviously dead to us, as far as friendship goes."

For MCU fans, this must not be a no-brainer that Loki is over with the Thor franchise. Although Loki has a new adventure in the multiverse, his actual self in the MCU timeline is confirmed to be dead. However, now that he is stuck in the multiverse, it remains a mystery what Marvel Studios plans to do with the Loki solo series and whether he will still meet the heroes in the main MCU timeline. Even though we won't see Loki in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, we'll still see the God of Mischief in Disney+'s Loki Season 2, which is still under writing development and is pushing a 2023 release date.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8.
