Chris Evans Says DC Films Will Never Beat The Marvel Cinematic Universe At The Box Office

Chris Evans is set to return to screens as the title character in Captain America: Civil War, the 13th film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The star believes that no other superhero films could match the ones set in the MCU as they keep getting bigger and better.

"Let's keep going, let's let the wave get bigger and bigger, it's not like they're making bad movies, they're making great movies and if you want to put them in this superhero box you can but they're good movies," he told America's Variety magazine via Hollywood.com. "They've (Marvel Studios) got a monopoly on it, they're doing it and no one else can try and copy it."

Since the release of the first installment in the franchise (Iron Man) in 2008, the Marvel films have enjoyed a good run of critical and box office success. Now, they're facing competition for comic book fans loyalties from DC Comics and Warner Bros.' films like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming standalone and Justice League films.

Captain America: Civil War co-director Joe Russo thought that some of the newcomers that fans will see with the new Avengers in Civil War will help keep the franchise fresh.

"We wanted to bring in characters that didn't have the same emotional investment that The Avengers had," he says. "Bringing in characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man, who don't have that baggage, allowed us to bring new colour to the film."

The Russos, producer Kevin Feige, and the writers recently talked about how the Avengers: Infinity War films will be different.

Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
