Charlize Theron Confirms Atomic Blonde 2 is in the Works

Atomic Blonde was a blast in theaters, and the film cemented several audience member's faith in director David Leitch when he took over for the Deadpool sequel. Now Charlize Theron has confirmed that there is actually an Atomic Blonde 2 in the works.

Talking during the San Franciso International Film Festival (via IndieWire), Theron offered no specific details other than her statement:

"We're working on a sequel."

After she wowed fans with her gruff role as Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron absolutely dropped jaws when she combined sex and action with her role as Lorraine Broughton in Atomic Blonde. Hopefully Leitch can capture the same action with the upcoming Deadpool 2.

I'll admit, I thought the "rogue female agent" premise was a bit tried in modern Hollywood what with movies like Salt, Ghost in the Shell, and Lucy, but Atomic Blonde manages to set itself apart with breathtaking one-shot action scenes combined with a strong performance from Theron.

Here's the synopsis for the first Atomic Blonde:

The crown jewel of Her Majesty's Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.

No release date has been set for the Atomic Blonde sequel, but hopefully we could get the film sometime in 2020.
