Charlie Cox Believes Marvel Should Not Continue the Story of Netflix's Daredevil

With the appearances of Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D'onofrio's Kingpin in Hawkeye and the Netflix's Marvel shows coming to Disney+ later this month, a lot of fans are now wondering about the future of the Defenders characters in the MCU. Are they going to continue where the Netflix shows left off? Or reboot it in its entirety? There are a lot of takes from fans at the moment and, now, Cox himself has chimed in on the conversation.

Per Heroic Hollywood, during his recent appearance at Middle East Film and Comic Con event in Abu Dhabi, Cox discussed the possibility of continuing Netflix's Daredevil in the future in which he said that he prefers if Marvel Studios will reboot the series rather than continue the storyline.

"The only thing I would say is… I don’t think it’s… I don’t think it makes sense to pick up where we left off," Cox said. "I think… in keeping with a lot of things in the MCU right now, where there’s this kind of there’s this alternate reality, kind of thing going on. You know what they did in Spider-Man [No Way Home] and [Into the Spider-Verse]… so it’s a good moment to have this, you know, there’s been… a few years have passed, you know, and now I don’t know it’s Daredevil but maybe there’s it’s not quite… it’s reimagined. It’s slightly different. It’s… you know what I texted one of my friends when I found out this is all happening? ‘It’s born again.’ You know, so it’s like an homage to… so, you know, the sky’s the limit. Let’s see."

Until Marvel Studios officially announces their plans for the Defenders characters in the MCU, this will continue as the subject of discussion among fans. Right now, it looks like the recent appearances of Matt Murdock and Kingpin don't have any connection to the Netflix shows since they didn't make any reference to them and they are R-rated which is not in alignment with the MCU's PG-13 tone. Perhaps Marvel's plan is to keep the actors while rebooting the character based on their preference and the Netflix ones are variants from another universe.

Cox has confirmed recently that he will be making his next appearance in the MCU soon. It has been rumored that he will show up in She-Hulk and possibly be part of the Echo series. There have also been rumors that a so-called fourth season of Daredevil is also currently in development. Of course, none of them has been officially confirmed so we shall find out the answers soon enough.
