Charlie Cox Admits He Was Told to Do Something Cringey for His Cameo in Spider-Man: NWH

Claps and laughter are common things for sitcoms while standing ovations are customary in festival screenings. Sometimes applause is also inevitable for theater releases, especially if the production comes from major franchises like Marvel. However, big reactions are easy to embrace if they’re not planned or expected. One of the highlights of Spider-Man: No Way Home when it was released was Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) big-screen debut in the MCU.

For his cameo in Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man outing, viewers noticed that the actor paused before saying his first line in the film, and now during a recent appearance at Megacon Orlando via a TikTok video shared by user @deotho, the Daredevil star revealed that he was instructed to do the hold off during the filming.

“I was really nervous. I remember being really nervous for that one little scene. I remember the way they shot the scene. Whoever is speaking, I think Jon Favreau, says something and then it’s my line, but they wanted me to put the cane down and wait for the camera to come around before I said my line and I said to the director, ‘That’s weird, why are you doing that? It feels like I should just speak’ and he goes, ‘No people are gonna be very excited and I was like ‘Are they?’” Cox admitted.

The Treason star first opened up about the scene in February 2022, where he said he was embarrassed to do what he was asked to, fearing his appearance would not elicit the expected response and would be an utter letdown. According to the actor, he received a few texts from people who saw the premiere or saw the movie during its opening weekend and told him the reaction was positive.

In contrast to his friends' experiences, Cox revealed that his personal experience of watching his cameo with an audience was embarrassing. He even went to a nearby theater to witness the reaction of the fans, but claimed that "it was dead f**king silent." Adding to his dismay, his wife was recording the moment for posterity.

Cox’s blind lawyer turned vigilante was last seen in the Disney+ She-Hulk series and he is set to reprise his role as The Man Without Fear in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.
