Chadwick Boseman Responds To Black Panther’s Oscar Nominations

The Academy announced its full list of nominations for the 91st Academy Awards earlier this week and Marvel fans were met with the exciting news that Black Panther managed to nab a nomination for the Oscar's Best Picture award. Not only that but the film was also given nods for Best Original Music Score, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Sound Editing, and Best Editing.

Now, as fans continue celebrating the success of Black Panther's first standalone movie, the King of Wakanda himself, Chadwick Boseman, joins the revelry with a brand new Tweet congratulating his Black Panther family.

Thanking the Academy for all the nominations, Boseman celebrates another groundbreaking success for his film.

"We just made history. 7 nominations, including BEST PICTURE. What an incredible honor. Thank you to @TheAcademy and congratulations to my entire @theblackpanther family! #Oscars#WakandaForever," Boseman wrote on his post sharing a GIF of Entertainment Weekly's Oscar Cover.

Of course, it comes as no surprise that Black Panther would win some recognition at the Oscars this year. There was a lot of hubbub over the Academy's planned Popular Film category, and analysts assumed that the organization wanted to put in this new award to recognize blockbuster films like Black Panther and Star Wars.

Not only was Black Panther the first standalone movie for T'Challa, but it was also the very first all-black comic book movie from Marvel Studios. The film's overwhelming success proved to the Hollywood industry how much diversity and representation mattered, breaking ground for the comic book movie genre.

Boseman is set to reprise his role as Black Panther in Marvel's upcoming Avengers: Endgame which is set to premiere on April 26, 2019.
