CFB Invites Back Some MTG Old School Championship Players After MagicFest Las Vegas Controversy

MagicFest Las Vegas has been a great event to celebrate different Magic: The Gathering formats like Modern, Commander, and Old School but due to the controversy yesterday about the winner of the Old School Championship getting caught with having two copies of "Circle of Protection: Red" while the photo of his deck only revealed one made the tournament organizer Channelfireball and the judges look back at the tournament and determine the best way to proceed. Now, they've decided.

Today, Channelfireball has announced that they're inviting back all players that finished X-1 to compete for the Old School Championship trophy and prizes on Sunday at 12:30 PM Pacific.

"Yesterday's Old School Championship at #MTGVegas was not the celebration of the format that this dedicated community deserves," Channelfireball said. "We took some time to consult with players, judges, and our event staff on the best way to proceed, and we're excited to announce that we're inviting back all players that finished X-1 to compete for the trophy and prizes. 2/x. This will take place tomorrow at 12:30pm and eligible competitors should meet at the red stage. Good luck! 3/3."

Those Old School Championship players definitely deserve another shot after yesterday's controversy but I hope they would do a better job tracking deck lists and doing deck checks for future tournaments like these. It was an unsanctioned tournament but for an event with a $50 entrance fee, it's important for them to make sure that cheating is strictly enforced. MagicFest Las Vegas is happening this weekend with double Grand Prix events: Modern and Limited (Modern Horizons). You can watch it live on Twitch.tv/channelfireball.
