CBS Interactive Announces Star Trek Fleet Command

Star Trek fans have certainly been having a field day this year. Not only did CBS All Access announce a brand new Star Trek series featuring the return of Patrick Stewart's iconic Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it looks like Trekkies are also getting a brand new Star Trek mobile game from CBS Interactive.

Together with Scopely, CBS Interactive announced the development of Star Trek Fleet Command, a brand new mobile game set in the Kelvin Timeline of the franchise. Making use of role play and multiplayer real-time strategy, Star Trek Fleet Command revisits the setting of the 2009 Star Trek movie and its sequels Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond.

In a statement, Scopely's chief revenue officer Tim O'Brien boasts a dynamic experience that mixes both strategy and role-playing elements.

"We're thrilled to work with CBS Interactive on such iconic IP and believe we've designed an expansive, dynamic and super social Star Trek experience for both strategy and role-play gaming fans," the statement read. "We wanted to create a cinematic, action-packed, genre-defying game that embraces the heart of the franchise—exploration, to allow players to experience an entire galaxy of quests and missions for endless adventure."

Described as the very first free-roaming multiplayer Star Trek game combining together role-play and real-time battles with enemy ships, Star Trek Fleet Command offers gamers "A fast-paced strategy experience, the game brings players unparalleled access to the Star Trek universe along with an epic narrative that unfolds as they travel to the furthest corners of the galaxy."

What's even cooler is that Trekkies playing the game get the chance to meet and build their own dream teams made up of fan-favorite Star Trek characters like Captain Kirk, Spock, Mackoy and Uhura with factions like the Romulans, the Federation, and Klingons to fight alongside within the game.

Star Trek Fleet Command is available for pre-registration up on Google Play and is going to be made available for download on Thursday, November 29.
