Casino Royale Director Would Come Back If Bond Was Recast

Casino Royale is the movie that started Daniel Craig's run as James Bond, and director Martin Campbell is considering returning to the franchise under one condition—they recast Bond.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Campbell says:

"I don't know. I might be, so never say never. I didn't after Goldeneye. I don't know if it was sort of arrogance or whatever I don't know. I just sort of said no to it. I was pretty much offered every one after that. But I just felt that I was [repeating] it. Another control room to blow up; another nutcase taking over the world. And also there is something refreshing about starting a new Bond, and particularly with Pierce [Brosnan]. It was sort of a Cold War sort of situation then, and we had Judi Dench for the first time. So there was a kind of excitement to doing it."

Campbell has actually been responsible for the introduction to two Bonds, with Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan before that. With Craig possibly doing this last film with Bond 25, Campbell may just as well be getting his wish with Bond getting recast.

For now, a lot of details for Bond 25 have been kept under wraps. We do know that Craig will be returning for this one, but we also know that the shortlist for directors includes The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan as well as Blade Runner 2049 director Dennis Villenueve.

Bond 25 is set for a release on Nov. 8, 2019.
