It has been nearly five years since the first season aired, and finally, the Cardcaptor Sakura anime is getting a proper ending with the announcement of the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card sequel.

The sequel to the first Clear Card season was announced at a recent Cardcaptor Sakura event in Japan.

Along with the new anime, lots of announcements were also made, including various merch and collabs featuring various works from CLAMP.

It’s fair to say that Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the most iconic anime of the late 90s, and it continues to be among the most popular magical girl franchises alongside the likes of Sailor Moon.

Cardcaptor Sakura began as a manga by the manga artist group CLAMP, and it was serialized in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine.

While the manga had a large following, it gained international renown with the anime adaptation by Madhouse which began in the late 90s.

The original manga ended in 2000, but its story continued over 15 years after with the release of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card.

Unlike the original which followed Sakura Kinomoto as a young magical girl, Clear Card is set during her junior high school days.

Just two years after the manga began, Madhouse returned with an anime adaptation that covered the first 28 chapters of Clear Card.

After a 22-episode run, the Clear Card anime ended. Since then, Madhouse has not returned to make more episodes.

Finally, the Clear Card anime is getting a proper conclusion as it was announced during the Sakura Festival event that it will get an anime series sequel.

Specifically, this new anime will continue the show’s story until its conclusion. This means the series won’t end on a cliffhanger which should be great news for fans.

The anime getting a conclusion is interesting given that the Clear Card manga isn’t over yet. This might mean the anime will feature its own ending, though it might also mean the manga will be completed soon.

Whatever the case may be, it’ll probably be a while before we see the anime. After all, the announcement didn’t reveal any other details about the series.

Many expect that the first season’s cast and staff members will return for the sequel, but more official details should be announced soon.
