With Disney having a newfound revenue stream with live-action remakes of classics, the Mouse House is now planning on making a live-action spinoff to Snow White called Rose Red, and rumor has it that they're eyeing Captain Marvel's Brie Larson to star in the film.
According to Disney Film Facts, Rose Red has been in development for quite a while, and is just recently getting some steam to move forward. With Captain Marvel no doubt boosting the star power of Larson, she would undoubtedly be an audience draw should she star in Rose Red.
As for the story of the film, it's said to take place right after Snow White bites the poison apple and falls into a deep sleep. Rose Red is said to be her sister who will embark on a quest to save her along with the Seven Dwarves.
The plot comes from an original script from Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children) with some touch-ups done by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman). As of now, there still isn't a director attached to helm the film.
Personally, I haven't been that big of a fan of the Disney live-action remakes. Though production value is top notch, I don't really see the movies bringing anything new or interesting to the classic animations. Who knows, maybe I could be wrong about Rose Red?
No release date has been set for Rose Red.
