Captain Marvel Takes Number 1 Spot as Most Mistake-Filled Movie of 2019

Marvel fans might have been pretty hyped up when Marvel Studios announced that its first female-standalone movie would go to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, however, despite its commercial success, the Captain Marvel movie didn't end up doing so well among fans and critics.

Not only did Captain Marvel end up with a 78% Rotten Tomato critic score (which is relatively low for Marvel standards, just a little bit above Avengers: Age of Ultron and the first Thor), but it also scored very low among fans, taking in a rotten audience score of 51%.

Now, Moviemistakes.com names Captain Marvel the most mistake-filled movie of the year.

Moviemistakes.com usually tallies the mistakes noticed by its users, and according to the site, Brie Larson's standalone movie gathered around 59 mistakes, the highest number for the year. Some of the mistakes listed take note of games that were featured in the film but weren't really out at the time of Captain Marvel, as well as books and movies which were not available at the time.

Here are some of the mistakes users listed on the site:

"In the scenes set in June of 1995, "Vers" uses a Windows 95 computer to search the internet via dial-up. Windows 95 wasn't released until August 24, 1995, two months after those scenes were set."

"There's a flashback of Danvers playing the arcade game of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition in the bar, but that wasn't released until 1992, and she left earth in 1989."

"The red songbook on Rambeau's piano is Cajun and Zydeco Classics, first published in 2005, ten years after this scene is supposed to have taken place."

Captain Marvel's writing team certainly didn't research the material well enough before adding these films, videogames, songs, and what not into the movie. Aside from actual film mistakes, one of the biggest reasons why Captain Marvel didn't do so well with fans and with critics was because of what some call a mediocre narrative and because of how overpowered Brie Larson's Carol Danvers seemed.

Interestingly enough, Avengers: Endgame also made it to the top three spots of moviemistake.com's list of mistake-filled films. Guess Marvel has to be more careful when it comes to continuity and accuracy.

Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel are both available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
