Captain Marvel Star Gemma Chan Reveals Why Minn-erva Despises Carol Danvers

There is little doubt that Captain Marvel is all about Carol Danvers. However, it looks like there is one particular character who isn't very fond of the heroine. Gemma Chan has just confirmed that Minn-Erva isn't a fan of Carol for a very strange reason.

Chan recently spoke to ScreenRant about working on Captain Marvel and shared some interesting details about her character. The Crazy Rich Asians star stated that the Kree scientist sees Carol as a rival.

"There's a slight rivalry between the two characters," Chan said. "I would say that to a certain extent, Minn-Erva doesn't quite trust Carol but they're all, as a team, they're very efficient and they get stuff done."

The Humans actress went on to explain that it isn't about power or affections but more on Brie Larson's character is the new big thing in Starforce.

"I suppose before Carol joined the team, Minn-Erva was probably kinda of the star of this Starforce team, and she was probably the favorite of the commander who is played by Jude Law," Chan revealed. "So yeah, so I suppose there's more to do with their abilities rather than affections as such."

Interestingly, Chan avoided calling Law's character as Mar-Vell. In comic books, Minn-Erva has a strong connection with the Starforce leader and eventually becomes a villain of sorts. Hopefully, she will prove to be a great ally for Carol in the film.

The synopsis for Captain Marvel reads as follows:

"Set in 1995, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as she turns into one of the galaxy's mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team, before returning home with questions about her past and identity when Earth is caught in the center of a galactic conflict between two alien worlds."

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.
