In case you haven't heard yet, the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel will see the big screen debuts of Monica Rambeau (Spectrum) and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) who will be teaming up with the "original" Avenger Carol Danvers. As it stands, we still know very little about the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project's plot but given the fact that it will feature three heroes, it would be a safe bet to expect the emergence of more than one villain.

Speaking of, a new scoop from tipster Charles Murphy of Murphy's Multiverse may have revealed the identity of Captain Marvel 2 aka The Marvels' villain and it's a surprising choice, to say the least. According to the geek culture website, the said villain will be a gender-swapped Kree character played by actress Zawe Ashton.

So far, all we know about Ashton's character is that it will be loosely based on General Ael-Dan, a short-lived villain from the comics most notable for trying to assassinate the Kree Emperor in order to take their place. The Kree race has a huge score to settle with Danvers so the idea of one of them being the main villain of The Marvels doesn't seem too farfetched.

By the looks of it, The Marvels will put a lot of emphasis on girl power and with the project set to feature three female heroes, it would make a ton of sense for the film’s villain to also be a woman. And honestly, General Ael-Dan being gender-swapped isn’t something I’ll lose sleep over especially considering the character is a lesser-known villain.

The Marvels is now scheduled for release on Feb. 17, 2023.
