Captain Marvel is Not Coming to Netflix, Costing Disney $150 Million

Fans might be able to enjoy Ant-Man and The Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War on Netflix but those hoping that Captain Marvel would come to the service are going to be disappointed. It seems like Disney really wants people to get into the company's upcoming streaming service since the movie will be coming to the platform as a way to entice fans.

Shots fired?

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Marvel's first female-led movie will be coming to Disney+ and not Netflix, which will reportedly cost the company $150 million. That's a lot of money but Iger says it's a risk the company is willing to take since they feel that investing in the service will help regain the money. It's definitely an interesting risk for the company but with a new service coming, this was probably expected.

Here is Iger's statement (via Deadline):

"What we're basically trying to do here is invest in our future... It's almost the equivalent of deploying capital to build out our theme parks. This is a bet on the future of this business. In terms of making decisions about where content goes. Since we are betting on this direct-to-consumer business long-term we obviously need to fuel it with intellectual property."

Since Captain Marvel isn't coming to Netflix, there's a good chance that Avengers: Endgame will also be skipping the popular streaming service. Spider-Man: Far From Home has a solid chance of appearing on Netflix since Sony still owns the rights to anything involving the wallcrawler.

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8.
