It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already hinted at Captain Marvel's great power two years ago. A new fan theory suggests that Tony Stark and Peter Parker teased on Carol Danvers' contribution to the world in Captain America: Civil War.
A Reddit post has pointed out that Tony mentioned the Phoenix Lights when he was recruiting Peter to join his team in CivilWar. The post further states that the Phoenix incident happened in 1997 and wondered if the lights may have been a result of the war that is set to happen in Captain Marvel. Check out the full post below.

It's a clever theory that makes sense considering that there are no random details in the MCU. The idea that most of humanity somehow witnessed a great war without knowing it would be a true testament to Captain Marvel's powers. It is possible that Carol managed to keep Earth safe from the Skrulls when the planet gets caught in their fight against the Kree. That's definitely something we could hope to look forward to when the film premieres next year.
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as the titular superhero who goes from being an Air Force pilot to a member of the Kree military team Starforce. She is joined by Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lee Pace, Gemma Chan, Djimon Hounsou, Clark Gregg, and Lashana Lynch.
Find out if Carol can save us from the Phoenix Lights when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
