Captain Marvel Directors Reportedly in Talks to Work on Disney+ Series

We recently got word that Marvel Studios are looking for a new director for Captain Marvel 2, and that original directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck won't be coming back to the helm. Though the directing pair won't be handling the sequel, they're not completely out of the Marvel banner yet.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Boden and Fleck are "in talks to remain in the Marvel Universe and direct a possible Disney+ series." We don't have any idea on what that Disney+ series might be, but we definitely have a lot to choose from counting all the material that Marvel has announced.

We know that production for She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel are pushing forward faster than expected with other shows like Moon Knight and Hawkeye underway. While some are expecting the pair to work on another female-led property, I think they'll be fine taking on something else. I mean, the last movie the two worked on before Captain Marvel was Mississippi Grind and that was a film about two men with gambling problems. Maybe they can channel that kind of energy into Hawkeye or Moon Knight? How about a revival of a Netflix property like Jessica Jones?

Though the movie was a box office success, I'd think Captain Marvel was kind of forgettable. I mean, I understand that she's supposed to be one of few superheroines for young girls, but story-wise, I just didn't like how the film was handled. If anything, as long as it made some kids feel like they could do anything, then Captain Marvel did its job.

Now that I think of it, maybe Boden and Fleck should direct an episode of Ms. Marvel, as a way of "passing the torch." Just an idea.

No sequel date has been set for Captain Marvel 2, but the next Disney+ show, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, comes out this fall. Black Widow hits theaters May 1, 2020.
