Marvel may not have included Captain Marvel 2 in its Phase 4 lineup for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, rumors are circulating online about the comic book movie and one of the newest reports suggests that the film may include Spider-Man (Tom Holland) in a "Secret Invasion" adaptation.
According to a report by Cosmic Book News, Marvel just recently opened up a May 5, 2023 release date and apparently, the spot is going to go to Captain Marvel 2. The report also suggests that it's highly likely that the Captain Marvel sequel is going to adapt the "Secret Invasion" arc while bringing in Peter Parker for a little bit of good-old-fashioned Spider humor.
For uninitiated, the "Secret Invasion" is a comic book storyline where the Skrulls slowly invade Earth by shapeshifting and pretending to be Marvel superheroes. Many fans believed that the first Captain Marvel movie would adapt the comic book narrative, however, the film turned the Skrulls into the victims of the Kree.
While it seems like the Skrulls have been turned into allies of the Avengers, rumors suggest that there are other members of the species out in space hoping to take over Earth. The "Secret Invasion" storyline would allow Marvel to bring in several cameo appearances in Captain Marvel 2, allowing for interesting interactions with Marvel's Strongest Avenger.
The report also suggests the appearance of Spider-Man, a character that Marvel hopes could bring some levity into the movie. There have been numerous reports going around saying that Marvel wants to feature Peter Parker with a crush on Captain Marvel, so a Spider-Man appearance doesn't really sound so odd – though we do suggest that fans ought to take this report with a grain of salt.
What do you think? Will we still be getting a "Secret Invasion" adaptation? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
