Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were stunned when Marvel removed Anthony Mackie's version of the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan as the official banner of the Captain America Twitter page. This was to make way for Hayley Atwell's MCU return as Captain Carter in the animated What If...? series. The change raised a lot of eyebrows on social media and fans expressed their displeasure over Sam Wilson being "sidelined" in favor of the new character who is not even American.

Now, a few days after it sparked a massive outcry from fans, Marvel has once again made changes to its official Captain America Twitter handle. The official display image of the account now features Cap's red, white, and blue shield while the header brings back Anthony Mackie after being temporarily booted out of the page. The account's description was even changed from the Peggy Carter-centric promo to the iconic Cap line "on your left". Check it out here:

Obviously, the backlash caught the attention of Marvel on social media and they had no choice but to revert the page back to its previous layout. My guess is the original plans called for Captain Carter to stick around as the "face" of the Captain America Twitter page until What If...? is over but due to the criticism it garnered, she was ultimately replaced. I mean, they could've just created new accounts dedicated to characters from the show instead of making changes to the existing pages.

Meanwhile, Hayley's return as Peggy Carter in the MCU was well-received by MCU fans and despite the fact that it's only in animated form, What If...?'s creators have previously teased that characters from the show could ultimately make the transition to live-action and I gotta say, that's something I'm totally looking forward to.

What If...? is already streaming on Disney+.
