We recently learned that Hollywood icon Harrison Ford is joining the MCU as the new Thunderbolt Ross starting with Captain America: New World Order, replacing the late William Hurt. So far, it is unknown yet how the character will play into the story of the film. Now, we have some interesting insights on the iconic actor's upcoming turn in the MCU and it sounds like a juicy one.
Speaking recently with Collider during the press junket for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, producer Nate Moore offered some insights on what we can expect from Captain America: New World Order, and revealed that the film is currently in pre-production and set to begin filming in spring of 2023.
He also teased Harrison Ford's upcoming appearance in the film as General Thunderbolt Ross where he hinted that we might be seeing a confrontation between him and Sam Wilson as a result of what happened in Captain America: Civil War.
"Well, look, Sam Wilson's Captain America, he is going to bring his own team to play. It's no secret that Samuel Sterns is making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is fantastic because Tim Blake Nelson's the best," Moore said.
"Harrison Ford is taking on the role of General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, and to see Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross, which if you remember actually threw him in prison at the end of Civil War because he violated the Sokovia Accords. There's going to be some natural sparks there, which I think are going to be really fun."
It sounds like Thunderbolt Ross will have a significant role in the film, perhaps even more than what everyone might expect. As Moore pointed out, Wilson and Ross do have a tumultuous relationship when we last saw them together and it's now interesting to see where they go now that Sam is the new Captain America.
This is also the first time that someone from Marvel officially confirmed the involvement of Ford in the upcoming film which alone is an exciting prospect since the actor is a huge icon and this is yet again another major franchise that he will be part of.
