Call of Duty Movie Expected to Begin Shooting in Spring 2019, Casting is Underway

After years of no news or updates, it looks like the long-rumored Call of Duty movie is going to enter production soon. Based on the best-selling shooter from Activision, the series has had a number of yearly releases for the longest time so a movie was inevitable, given its popularity. The most recent games in the series definitely had cinematic story modes, aside from Black Ops 4, which is multiplayer only.

According to Discussing Film, writer Kieran Fitzgerald told them that casting for the movie is underway and that they are hoping to start shooting in 2019 and make it to a 2020 release. Activision Blizzard Studios' presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk are set to produce the movie along with Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick.

If that wasn't enough to excite you, Stefano Sollima is slated to direct the video game adaptation. Sollima recently directed Sicario: Day of the Saldado, which ended up being a big hit. He will probably bring the same grit to Call of Duty, which would be great.

What will be really interesting is the story since Call of Duty games have a habit of changing timelines depending on how the audience feels. It's not yet clear if we'll get a movie more akin to Modern Warfare, Infinite Warfare, or even WWII. There probably won't be any zombie Call of Duty movies, which is a shame given how fun the mode is in the game.
