For starters, the official title of MAPPA’s latest anime project is Bucchigiri, not Bucchigire.

We need to remind anime viewers that Bucchigiri is different from Bucchigire, which was a historical and samurai anime produced by Gene Studio back in the summer of 2022.

On the other hand, Bucchigiri is a fantasy and delinquent (Yankee) anime that is set in the present time, unlike Bucchigire.

The series involves yankee characters fighting each other to reach the top spot, with some of the characters, like Tomoshibi Arajin, gaining power from a strange majin (genie), whereas Bucchigire features samurai protagonists.

This goes to say that Bucchigiri is not a remake, but an original anime.

Bucchigiri Title Meaning Explained

Unlike other anime with manga or light novel materials, Bucchigiri doesn’t have any, making it difficult to determine the official meaning behind its title.

In Japanese slang, the word “Bucchigiri” has been used as a rough way to say "break." However, these days, the word describes an automobile’s extreme acceleration.

Meanwhile, based on the official website of Japan Dict, the word Bucchigiri means to "establish a big lead (winning by) a huge margin, or “break away from the field."

On the contrary, Tanoshii Japanese has an English meaning for Bucchigiri, which is to “tear (off) roughly," basically the same meaning as the Japanese slang.

Knowing these meanings and translations, we can perceive that the title of the Bucchigiri anime is fitting for its premise.

In the first episode, Senya the Majin said the anime’s title, "Bucchigiri,” when he merged his power with Tomoshibi Arajin, who almost seemed like he broke his power limiter.

It’s as if Arajin has reached a breaking point after Jin Marito beat him to the ground. Then, we see Arajin punching Marito in the stomach, which blows him away.

Unfortunately, Bucchigiri has yet to be officially translated into English, contrary to Bucchigire, which has an official English translation of Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys.

If and when an official English translation of the title Bucchigiri has been confirmed, this article will be updated.
