BTS RM Becomes Highest-Charting K-pop Artist on Billboard 200 with 'Indigo'

BTS RM reached a new milestone after releasing his debut solo album, Indigo.

After a long wait, RM became the latest BTS member to mark his solo debut after J-Hope and Jin. BIGHIT Music announced his debut solo album before his co-member, Jin, enlisted in the military.

A few weeks after dropping the album, the rapper scored an honor on Billboard’s music chart.

BTS RM Becomes Highest-Charted K-pop Soloist on Billboard

On Billboard’s main albums chart this week, RM’s Indigo outshined other albums and ranked third. Billboard confirmed the development on Monday, saying RM ultimately became the first BTS member with an album to make it to Billboard 200’s Top 10.

The music magazine’s chart ranks the most popular albums per week in the US through the data being collected in the physical album and digital sales record.

Previously, Indigo debuted at No. 15 but got eliminated the following week. It made its way back after RM released its CD version. Per Billboard, the album scored 79,000 physical sales and 83,000 equivalent album units.

The BTS member also beat the record set by TWICE Nayeon. When the female idol debuted with her first solo album Im Nayeon, she successfully debuted at the No. 7 spot.

In addition, RM followed J-Hope on the list of BTS members who entered the chart with a solo project.

BTS RM Honored After Solo Debut

While enjoying the spotlight, RM also received recognition from the Cultural Heritage Administration in South Korea. It honored the K-pop idol after donating a whopping amount to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation. He also gave more to the Cultural Heritage Administration of South Korea.

The plaque of appreciation given to RM was also given to other individuals who “made significant contributions to the preservation of South Korea's cultural heritage housed overseas, as well as in the garnering of global interest in Korean culture, through his continued interest, affection, and appreciation for our country's history and cultural heritage."
