Bryan Konietzko Shares First Sketch That Spawned Avatar: The Last Airbender

Netflix had just recently announced their plans to adapt Avatar: The Last Airbender to live-action, and everyone is excited for what's to come. As a little teaser for the series, co-creator Bryan Konietzko shares his sketch that would eventually spawn the idea for one of the greatest animated shows of all time.

Check it out:

Like he says, this version is still in its very early stages and it looks like it also has some science fiction elements as well, counting that Momo was a robot and Aang's stick is more like a futuristic weapon. I like the evolution of Appa though; and I think it's pretty neat that they were able to take this dog concept and turn it into Naga for The Legend of Korra.

The Last Airbender turned out to be one beloved show, not just by kids, but by anyone who is a fan of quality entertainment. Konietzko and Michael DiMartino didn't just create a fantastic world, but also gave us some great well-rounded characters and some fantastic visual setpieces.

Hopefully this live-action re-imagining will be more faithful to the cartoon. After all, the original creators are attached to the project. Knowing Netflix, they'll probably avoid the disaster that was M. Night Shymalan's Last Airbender movie from 2010.

It's ridiculous how that film even managed to get made.

No release date has been set for Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender.
