A lot of fans are scratching their heads over Sony's decision to spinoff several Spider-Man characters into their own franchises. It's admittedly a weird move after doing something groundbreaking by sharing Spider-Man with the MCU. Longtime Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis weighs in on Sony's plans for the other Spider-characters.
Talking to Vulture, Bendis claims:
"I happen to have heard some of the plans that have not been made public. You're asking if they're cool? I thought they were very cool. Fans wouldn't be annoyed with what they're doing."
Hopefully Bendis' comments can ease a few worried fans; after all, this is a guy who definitely knows Spider-Man.
For now, Venom is the only live-action Spider-Man spinoff that is set to come out this year, but Sony still has plans for a Morbius the Living Vampire movie along with a Silver & Black spinoff. Silver & Black may have gotten caught in a bit of a snag recently, but Morbius is getting some steam behind it, especially with Jared Leto starring as the lead.
Not to mention, there's still the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to look forward to. The trailer looked amazing, and it looks like something that hasn't been tried with a comic book movie before.
Catch Venom in theaters Oct. 5.
