Breaking Bad Star Speaks Out on Potentially Joining the MCU Following Rumors

As Marvel Phase 5 continues suffering from delayed releases, Disney+’s upcoming Wonder Man series has begun production. Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk, who was initially being eyed on as a potential MCU prospect by specifically playing the agent of Yahya Abdul-Mateen’s Simon Williams, sheds light on whether he’s making his MCU debut soon or not.

“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world.” Odenkirk said in a recent interview with The Independent, “I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”

Odenkirk is best known for his portrayal of Saul Godman on Breaking Bad and its spinoff, Better Call Saul, and considering he was reportedly best for the role, none has been confirmed yet. And as Odenkirk stated, he would not be interested should he be offered a role in the MCU.

Executive producer Destin Daniel Cretton previously announced that the production for Wonder Man has finally begun, after weeks and weeks of anticipation for the upcoming Marvel series. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, Simon Williams is finally heading towards the MCU screens, whose powers revolve around superhuman strength, speed, agility, ionic-energy physiology, and more.

Odenkirk is not the only actor intimidated by the world of the MCU. After all, joining the superhero genre could make or break an actor’s career, especially since Disney is undergoing massive layoffs as they adjust multiple Lucasfilm’s Star Wars and Marvel Studios’ Marvel Phase 5 projects for a better future.

The cast of Marvel’s Wonder Man includes Ben Kingsley (Trevor Slattery), Demetrius Grosse, and Lauren Glazier, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen portraying the titular hero. There had also been reports of Ed Harris and Werner Herzog joining the cast in mystery roles, though Marvel Studios has yet to confirm it.

Meanwhile, Wonder Man is currently slated to be released on Disney+ in 2024.
