Boyfriend officially returned to the K-pop music scene years after they disbanded.

In 2019, Starship Entertainment's longtime boy group Boyfriend bid goodbye after eight years in the industry. At that time, their fans heard the most heartbreaking update about them after asking the agency to give them a comeback.

Unfortunately, the members no longer renewed their contract and officially dissolved the group on May 16, 2019.

But this year, news about their comeback showered fans with hope amid the global crises – and they formally returned before 2022 begins.

Boyfriend is Now BF

As early as April, BF prepared new platforms where they could connect with their fans. They first launched their Japanese fanclub before opening their official Twitter and Instagram accounts. In anticipation of their most-awaited comeback, they shared a video greeting and uploaded new photos featuring the six original members – Donghyun, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, Youngmin, Kwangmin, and Minwoo.

On Wednesday, they finally dropped their album ADONIS which has five tracks in total. The title track's official music video is now viewable on CROSS PHASE Inc.'s YouTube Channel.

Their comeback as a new group came years after releasing their final album before their disbandment, Fox Rain.

Although they came together as a group again, the members still focused on their individual careers. For instance, Donghyun currently appears in the web drama College Life Everybody Wants. Hyunseong, Jeongmin, and Kwangmin debuted as soloists. Minwoo expanded his connection and launched his YouTube Channel, while Youngmin currently waits until he can continue his scheduled events in Japan.

Why Did Boyfriend Disband?

Before their disbandment, Boyfriend became one of the most famous K-pop groups that established a massive network in Japan.

The boy group started their career in 2011 and released their single Boyfriend. They continued releasing more hits like Don't Touch My Girl, I'll Be There, Janus, I Yah, and more in the years thereafter.

Unfortunately, the rise of second and third-generation boy groups from bigger companies made them lose their spotlight. It is worth noting that SM Entertainment debuted SHINee and EXO while YG Entertainment introduced BIGBANG when Boyfriend was trying to gain more supporters in South Korea and abroad.

Despite their first failed attempt, BF might finally get the attention they deserve with their brand-new music.
